In Greece, with some 700 official deaths, the population has been relatively spared from the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, faced with an upsurge in positive cases and very limited hospital capacity, the country is reconfiguring itself from this Saturday, for a period of at least three weeks.

Kostas Galanopoulos is studying economics at the University of Athens.

Like all his family, he says he is opposed to the principle of the second confinement which starts this weekend.

“

Personally, it depresses me a bit and I'm worried about the consequences of this confinement,” he

says.

It's already the second, not the first, and I think it's extremely negative for the economy in general.

Especially since in my opinion, this will not solve the most crucial problems.

 "

What the student fears most, in fact, is a generalized impoverishment of the population.

And the young man to suggest: “

We should fight against Covid by supporting hospitals more.

Instead of spending a fortune to communicate about this virus in the media, that money could be used to create more beds and that sort of thing.

 "

Faced with reduced hospital capacities, the Greeks would no doubt also be entitled to wonder why Athens has just bought 18 Rafale fighter jets from France - in a context of regional tensions with Turkey - rather than investing there. again, in hospitals.

Because in the end, an entire country finds itself confined a second time, due to the saturation of its hospitals, while in Greece, less than 200 people out of 11 million inhabitants are currently in intensive care.
