November 06, 2020More than 12 million coronavirus cases have been ascertained in Europe, according to a tally made by France Presse based on reports provided by health authorities and updated at 5pm today.

The 52 countries of the continent constitute the most affected area in the world in terms of number of cases, ahead of Latin America and the Caribbean (11.5 million cases) and Asia (10.9 million).

Almost half of these 12 million cases were registered in just four countries: Russia (1,733,440), France (1,601,367), Spain (1,306,316) and the United Kingdom (1,123,197).

Record in France

New record of 60,486 cases in France, but Santé Publique France specifies that these are not "consolidated" data due to the computer bug that - a few days ago - prevented the flow of 300,000 results to the Health Center.

This data is now released in packets and thus creates dramatic jumps in the daily count.

The deaths were 398 in hospitals, but we must add the 430 deaths recorded in the last 4 days in retirement homes and institutions for the disabled, for a total of 828.

Record also in Germany

In Europe the trend of the Covid pandemic- 19 confirms worrying with Germany which for the first time recorded over 20 thousand cases a day.

Health Minister Jens Spahn warned about the hard times awaiting the country, which are inevitable if the upward trend in infections is not interrupted.

Speaking to the Bundestag, the minister called the situation "serious", stressing that the number of patients being treated in intensive care units has doubled in the past 10 days.

"To date, the healthcare system can cope with this situation," Spahn said, "but it won't be able to hold up for long" if the numbers continue to grow at this rate.

To stem the spread of infections, Germany has classified the whole of Italy as a risk area, where unnecessary travel is not recommended.

Alarm in Denmark

The pandemic also runs in

Poland

, which marked the peak of daily victims, and in

Sweden

which reported a new record of infections.

But it is

Denmark

that is now most of the attention after a Covid-19 mutation was detected in the country's mink farms.

The mutated virus has infected 12 people so far, 11 in the north and one in the west.

Last month Denmark began culling millions of minks after the infections were reported.

Nationally, at least 216 of the 1,139 fur farms in the country have been infected.

At the moment there is no evidence that the mutation poses a greater danger to people, but as a precaution and also in view of the increase in infections, the Danish government has ordered the lockdown in 7 municipalities in the north that have more than 280 thousand residents.

"We have to completely break down this variant of the virus," explained Health Minister Magnus Heunicke.

Meanwhile, the

United Kingdom

has ordered a mandatory 14-day quarantine for all travelers arriving from the country.

The contagion curve continues to grow even in

Moscow

.

In the last 24, Russia has confirmed more than 20,500 positives.
