It is the story of a recipe discovered by the greatest of luck and which gave rise to an epic legal fight.

Two confectioneries, Afchain and Despinoy, are fighting over the authorship of these little mint candies with so-called digestive virtues.

First version, that of Afchain: the confectioner's son would have made a ball when preparing berlingots (candies in fruit syrup), he drops mint and lets the preparation cook longer to hide his blunder.

Second version, that of Despinoy: it is about an error of dosage of mint and of cooking.

The apprentice would have let the sugar cook for too long.

"You can only do stupid things in life", then launched his father before still selling the product of this dumpling.

It was an immediate success.

Trial in 1889: Afchain is recognized as inventor and Despinoy as creator!

The only two manufacturers are still playing it.
