Ugo Humbert (34th) qualified for the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 in Paris by using the Croatian Marin Cilic, ex-world No. 3 today 43rd, in three sets 6-3, 6-7 (4- 7), 6-3 Thursday.

At 22, Humbert will play his very first Masters 1000 quarter-final against Canadian Milos Raonic (17th) on Friday.

In the previous round, the left-hander from Lorraine had battled 3:17 to overcome world No.6 Stefanos Tsitsipas and afford the second victory of his young career against a top 10 player. He had obtained the first at the expense of Daniil Medvedev ( N.5) mid-September in Hamburg.

Against Cilic, Humbert this time remained on the Parisian court for nearly two and a half hours.

Victorious in Antwerp ten days ago of his second title, after Auckland in January, he recorded an eighth consecutive victory.
