England is subject to new national containment from this Thursday.

From midnight, pubs, bars, restaurants and non-essential shops must remain closed until December 2.

People are just allowed to go to work, buy food or play sports.

The decision was confirmed by Parliament on Wednesday evening.

The imposition of a second lockdown in England was approved by a large majority thanks in particular to the votes of the Labor opposition which had been calling for stricter measures for several weeks now to halt a resumption of the pandemic.

During the debate in the House of Commons,

Boris Johnson

defended the need to act quickly at the risk of seeing the number of deaths reach "

serious

"

proportions

with hospitals very quickly overwhelmed.

To calm the ambient discontent, the Prime Minister said he hoped for a reopening of shops just before Christmas, welcoming the “

 heroic efforts

” of companies severely affected by the pandemic.

But the arguments of Boris Johnson who had until then categorically rejected a national reconfinement have not convinced.

48,000 deaths in the UK

This forced backpedaling, announced in a muddled manner, earned him the open rebellion of 34 Conservative deputies of usually unfailing loyalty.

The latter are worried about a severe economic impact and also see these measures as an attack on individual freedoms on the part of a government deemed "

arrogant

".

This reconfinement comes into force, however, while the United Kingdom is the country most bereaved by the pandemic in Europe with nearly 48,000 deaths, including 492 in the last 24 hours, unheard of since May.
