A man, in a state of intoxication, was arrested and placed in police custody, Monday, in Nîmes (Gard), suspected of having tried to forcefully enter the cathedral, learned

 this Tuesday from Eric Maurel, the public prosecutor of Nîmes.

The individual, already known for minor offenses, was arrested on the forecourt of the cathedral, when he had just been repelled by the soldiers who were watching the religious building.

According to the prosecutor, the man is suspected of having shouted "Allah Akbar".

"Congratulations to the soldiers of the Sentinel device who protected their fellow citizens and to the police officers who smoothly arrested an individual likely to be dangerous", expressed the public prosecutor of Nîmes on Twitter.

The man is being prosecuted for apologizing for terrorism and declaring a false identity.
