Rescuers uprooted two living children on Monday from the rubble of collapsed buildings in Izmir province, nearly three days after a powerful earthquake in the Aegean that left 83 people dead in Turkey and two others on a Greek island.

A 3-year-old girl, Elif Perincek, buried under the rubble of a building, was rescued 65 hours after the earthquake and taken to hospital, the Turkish government agency for disaster situations (Afad) said.

Turkish media broadcast images of the girl wrapped in a blanket being evacuated to applause from a group of rescuers.

" I am so happy.

God bless you, my prayers have been answered and I am reunited with Elif, ”said the girl's grandmother, quoted by Turkish state television, TRT.

More than 100 people were pulled alive from the rubble

Elif Perincek is the 106th person to be uprooted alive from the rubble of buildings destroyed or damaged by the earthquake that hit the province of Izmir in western Turkey and the Greek island of Samos on Friday .

Among those rescued were Elif Perincek's mother, two sisters and brother, who were removed from the rubble on Saturday evening.

The brother died soon after, however, according to the TRT.

A few hours earlier, rescuers removed another living girl, Idil Sirin, 14, from the rubble of another building, according to Afad.

But the family's joy was short-lived as Idil's sister Ipek was found dead under the ruins, the
