“The United States told Turkey and our colleagues very clearly that the acquisition of the S-400 is clearly unacceptable, it creates a risk of sanctions,” said Clark Cooper, Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs.

Washington is still striving for dialogue with Ankara, he said.

“We are still negotiating with our Turkish counterparts to try to keep the S-400 from being commissioned.

Why?

This creates problems in terms of compatibility between Turkey and the United States, as well as compatibility within NATO, ”the TASS diplomat quoted as saying.

With regard to sanctions, this possibility has always been considered, Cooper added.

Earlier, the United States said that the risk of US sanctions against Turkey due to the acquisition of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems from Russia is increasing.

As Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized, Ankara does not intend to abandon the complexes.

He noted that Turkey is not a tribal state.
