“Currently, there are reports of seven dead,” the newspaper said.
Police urged residents not to post photos and videos related to the incident on social media, as this could endanger emergency services and the public.
Earlier Kronen Zeitung reported that the shooting occurred near a synagogue in the center of Vienna, one policeman was injured.
According to the newspaper, the attacker fled after the attack.
Austrian police are conducting an operation.
