Excessive transfer of more than 5,000 people in Tokyo From April to half a year, a move to correct the situation

The population movement in Tokyo for half a year from April has become "excessive out-migrants", with out-migrants exceeding the in-migrants by more than 5,000.

Experts say that due to the influence of the new coronavirus, companies and universities are becoming more remote, and as a result, there is a movement to correct the concentration in Tokyo.

According to the summary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the population movement in Tokyo was 194,395 people who moved in for half a year from April to September due to the continued spread of infection with the new coronavirus, but moved out. The number of out-migrants was 199,937, and the number of out-migrants exceeded that of in-migrants by 5,542.

Looking at each month, in May, it became "excessive move-out" for the first time since 2013, which was the current survey method, and returned to "excessive move-in" in June, but it has been three consecutive months since then. "Excessive transfer" continues.

The largest number of people to move out was Kanagawa prefecture with 44,184 people, followed by Saitama prefecture with 35,789 people and Chiba prefecture with 26,832 people.

Yutaka Okada, a senior researcher at Mizuho Research Institute Ltd., who is familiar with population issues, said, "As a result of the progress of remoteization at companies and universities, there is a movement to correct the concentration in Tokyo. The move-out has progressed like a social experiment, but if this trend takes root and the degree of freedom in how people live increases, regional revitalization will progress. "
