Nice provisionally rose to fourth place in Ligue 1 on Sunday by going to beat Angers 3-0 but fears a serious injury from its captain Dante, while Montpellier has plunged Saint-Etienne into the doldrums (1-0).

.

Nice, Pyrrhic victory

After their victory in Angers (3-0), Nice has 17 points, four less than Paris SG, leader, and temporarily passes fourth.

But the Gym may have lost its captain Dante for a long time, evacuated on a stretcher.

Shortly after the hour mark, the Brazilian central defender, 37, landed poorly in the box by jumping on a corner and collapsed.

It was previously he who had served Rony Lopes for the opener (12th).

The Portuguese adjusted Paul Bernardoni with his left foot (12th) after the impeccable control of his captain.

Pierre Lees-Melou increased the score from the penalty spot (22nd), caused by a late exit from the Angevin goalkeeper on Jeff Reine-Adélaïde.

And Hicham Boudaoui, back from injury, pushed a ball to the bottom (77th) at the conclusion of a great collective action with Hassane Kamara and Amine Gouiri.

Montpellier leads the Greens

Saint-Etienne never stops falling.

The Greens suffered, against Montpellier at Geoffroy-Guichard, their fifth consecutive defeat (1-0), on a goal from Stephy Mavididi.

The Englishman opened the scoring with a shot from the right (14th) and allowed Montpellier, which remained in four matches without winning, to curb its own negative dynamic.

The MHSC temporarily passes seventh (14 pts) while Claude Puel's men remain blocked in the second half of the table (13th, 10 pts).

Race to maintain, Reims accelerates

With two sumptuous goals, Reims won (2-1) in a duel for the maintenance against Strasbourg.

This second victory in a row allows the Champenois (15th, 8 pts) to overtake their evening opponent in the standings, now relegated (19th, 6 pts).

The Reims counter was released on a superb direct free kick from Mathieu Cafaro, deflected by the post and by the back of Bingourou Kamara (21st).

Wout Faes doubled the mark on a corner (26th), with an unstoppable angry header for the Strasbourg goalkeeper, just before the reduction in the penalty score from Racing, by Ludovic Ajorque (29th).

In another poorly classified duel, Lorient left Dijon with the point of a draw (0-0) and regrets.

At the red lantern, still unable to win this season, the Merlus striker Yoane Wissa missed a penalty (57th), crushing his shot on the left post of Saturnin Allagbe.

.

Metz with forceps

Another threatened by relegation, Nîmes, beaten at Costières (1-0) by Metz despite a numerical superiority, is now barrage (18th, 8 pts).

The Garnets (6th, 14 pts) sign their second success in a row with a game full of commitment bearing the mark of their coach Frédéric Antonetti.

Lamine Gueye scored the winning goal on a counter (15th).

Well launched in depth by Habib Maïga, the Senegalese gained the upper hand on Florian Miguel then on goalkeeper Baptiste Reynet.

Dominators, the Lorrainers have complicated the task on their own, when their defender Matthieu Udol received a direct red (44th) for a violent tackle on Moussa Koné.

Two Nîmes also narrowly escaped exclusion: Pablo Martinez (64th), only warned for having mown Gueye, and Nolan Roux, after a shock with Alexandre Oukidja (40th).
