Dozens of Druze Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan kidnapped the body of a famous cleric from their sect who died in Corona from an Israeli hospital, and held a mass funeral for him - Saturday - in the town, which is subject to closure.

And on Friday, Sheikh Abu Zain Al-Din Hassan Halabi died of a corona infection in a hospital in the town of Safad (north), according to the private Israeli Channel 12.

Relatives of Halabi requested a mass funeral for him, but the Israeli authorities refused and insisted on organizing a limited funeral, prompting about 100 followers of the Druze Sheikh to kidnap his body, according to the same source.

A mass funeral for Halabi, in which hundreds participated, without adhering to the rules of social distancing, was held in Majdal Shams, which has been subject to closure since last Monday, due to the high rate of Corona injuries inside, according to the channel.

The Israeli channel said that among the participants in the funeral, many came from the Galilee region (north), threatening a mass infection wave among the Druze in the entire northern region.

Majdal Shams is the largest concentration of Druze in the part of the Syrian Golan that Israel occupied in 1967.
