This is one of the big differences between confinement and re-containment: the possibility of visiting relatives in nursing homes.

Beneficial for residents and their families, they are carried out in a strict and sometimes restrictive health framework.

But these security measures reassure the residents of the establishment encountered by Europe 1.

REPORTAGE

"I wouldn't want to be the one to bring the virus into the house."

This is one of the big differences between confinement and renconfinement announced by Emmanuel Macron when announcing this new turn of the screw: the possibility of visiting relatives in nursing homes.

But for these establishments, there is no question of transforming into clusters.

Strict health rules therefore apply to minimize the risk of coronavirus contamination as much as possible.

"It's better than nothing"

To visit his very dependent wife, he first had to make an appointment.

But that's not all, the meeting is limited in time, the compulsory mask and the hydroalcoholic gel must be within reach.

Distancing requires a large table also separates him from his wife.

"There is eye contact, but it lacks the fact of being able to hold hands", comments Jean at the microphone of Europe 1. Before putting into perspective: "It is sure that it is better than nothing because we had nothing during the two months of the first lockdown. "

Maintaining the family residence link is now a priority as much as possible.

And it's good for the morale of Paulette, 82, who continues to see her son regularly.

"It's very important, even if it's very little time, it's heartwarming," she explains.

Avoid the feeling of abandonment

"We all have this request not to be alone, to see our own people, it's human," analysis for her part, Maryline Fehner, healthcare executive at the nursing home.

With the experience of the first confinement, avoiding the feeling of abandonment has become one of the priorities of the establishment.

"During the first phase, we saw elderly people who lost a lot of weight. The fact of remaining isolated, it lowers morale and it suddenly decreases the desire to eat", details Sylvie Soyer, coordinating doctor.

"Undernutrition is dangerous for patients."

As long as the coronavirus spares this establishment, visits will therefore be maintained for the moral and physical health of residents.
