Traveling to Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray to discuss with the Catholic community on Saturday, the Prime Minister spoke after the Nice attack and the strengthening of the Sentinel device.

Traveling to Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, where Father Hamel was assassinated in 2016, to discuss with the Catholic community, Jean Castex reacted to the news on Saturday afternoon: an Orthodox priest was injured there by bullet, without it being known, at this stage, whether the attack was terrorist in nature.

A crisis unit activated at the Ministry of the Interior

Indicating that a "crisis cell" had been activated at the Ministry of the Interior, the Prime Minister hammered home the "entire determination of the government to allow everyone to practice their worship in complete safety and freedom" in France.

Accompanied by the Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly, Jean Castex was also to note the elements of the Sentinel device, the deployment of which increased to 7,000 soldiers across the territory against 3,000 previously. 

The vigipirate plan at the "emergency bombing" level

The Prime Minister announced Thursday the passage of the vigipirate plan to the level "emergency attack", the highest level of the plan, in order to protect places of worship and schools, after the attack on the Church of Notre-Dame de l 'Assumption of Nice, which left three dead.


This trip comes after the Nice attack and two weeks after the assassination of Samuel Paty, a teacher beheaded in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines) for showing his students caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.
