From farmer to archaeologist.

While he was in an olive grove on

La Rambla

, in Córdoba,

Gonzalo Crespo Crespo

found what has become this week's archaeological discovery: an Iberian lioness from

2,500 years ago

found in perfect condition.

The delegate of Culture and Historical Heritage of the Junta de Andalucía in Córdoba,

Cristina Casanueva

, presented this Friday the archaeological piece found last Wednesday in the municipality of

La Rambla

(Córdoba), which is a sculpture of a round shape, of "undoubted interest ", carved in limestone, weighing

166 kilos

and representing a carnivorous animal at the time of attacking another animal, possibly a ram, referring its invoice and generic stylistic features to the characteristics of the

Iberian zoomorphic sculpture

.

As Casanueva explained, "since its transfer to

the Archaeological Museum of Córdoba

", where the delegate has presented it, "the land is being cleared and studied," and it is necessary to "evaluate its apparently well-preserved state in order to establish future restoration procedures and an in-depth study that allows its enhancement ".

Casanueva added that, "after comparing the situation of the find with the database of Real Estate Heritage of Andalusia of the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage", it has been "verified that in the place of the find and its surroundings

there is no registered archaeological site

" .

"Given the importance of this sculptural piece -he continued-, which

could belong to a group of great importance

, from the Territorial Delegation we are going to urgently promote an Archaeological Study and Graphic Documentation Activity".

On the other hand, Casanueva has recognized "the civic, exemplary sense of responsibility with the heritage that has been shown by the neighbor who discovered this piece during some plowing work,

Gonzalo Crespo Crespo

", whose good "spirit and predisposition" has highlighted the delegate , since, "from the first moment, the discovery was made known to the Seprona de Baena, so that they could notify the Territorial Delegation" of Culture.

Precisely, as Casanueva has pointed out, "

in this process the Civil Guard has played a fundamental role

, whose efficient collaboration has allowed a rapid action to be carried out", since "the piece was protected and transferred to the Archaeological Museum, in compliance of the Law, after appearing at the technical farm of the Museum and the Delegation of Culture and Historical Heritage ".

The delegate concluded by highlighting that "we are facing an important finding that reveals, once again,

the heritage value of the province of Córdoba

", and now is "the time to study the piece in depth, so that it can be put into value asap ".
