Faced with the terrorist threat, Operation Sentinel will receive some 4,000 reinforcements.

These are therefore 7,000 men spread over the entire territory who will monitor and secure, in particular places of worship and schools, theaters in the last weeks of two Islamist attacks.

"This threat is serious", according to the head of state.

The day after the Nice attack, which cost the lives of three people, Emmanuel Macron gathered the government around him for a third Defense Council this Friday morning, this time devoted to the terrorist threat.

A phenomenon that worries all the more as the feast of All Saints is approaching.

The president therefore ordered the passage from 3,000 to 7,000 soldiers for Operation Sentinel.

This is the reinforced level of the system.

115 additional sections

Proof that the situation is of concern at the highest level of the State, this is the first time since 2017 that Operation Sentinel has been strengthened to this point.

The total deployment of these 4,000 additional soldiers, all from the Army, will be effective in the middle of next week.

But some began their field mission on Thursday: three sections of 35 men - 27 soldiers, command liaison soldiers - were deployed to each of the six defense zones that make up the territory.

One was also specifically sent to Nice.

There are therefore 115 additional sections that will be operational within a few days, against 85 previously, or 200 in total.

The mask and barrier gestures are also required for the soldiers of Operation Sentinel.

Places of worship and schools under high surveillance

These mobile and rapid patrols will monitor and secure as many places of worship and schools as possible.

A reinforcement of the device "was already" planned "before the attacks of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine and Nice, comments for its part the General Staff," but not with that number of soldiers ".
