On Saturday, Uppsala Cathedral will be the center of events for All Saints' Day.

A memorial service will be held to commemorate those who have passed away during the year.

Usually there are local memorial ceremonies, but on the initiative of Archbishop Antje Jackelén, they have chosen to instead hold a televised national memorial service, a decision that is largely based on the situation with the corona pandemic.

- This year, there have been requests from several parts of the country that we should have a national memorial service.

In times of crisis, these moments where we can gather around something extra important, says Archbishop Antje Jackelén.

The royal couple will take part in the memorial service and they have also invited representatives of authorities and businesses that during the year had a strong focus on the corona pandemic.

The Speaker of the Riksdag and the Archbishop will both give speeches.

- The memorial service is based on Gabriel Fauré's requiem.

It is music that both talks about the reality and seriousness of death but which also expresses our longing for rest and comfort, says Antje Jackelén.

The ceremony is expected to begin at 6 p.m.

The number of places in the cathedral is limited to 50 in addition to participants.

The places will be filled by invited participants.
