Macron increases local counterterrorism forces by 4,000 soldiers

French President Emmanuel Macron said that the soldiers deployed to perform domestic counterterrorism duties will more than double their number from 3,000 to 7,000 after the Thursday killing at a church in Nice.

"We will thus empower ourselves to protect all places of worship, especially churches, so that the Feast of All Holies (on November 1) can be held in the appropriate circumstances," Macron said after speaking with officials and police officers.

Macron pledged "the support of the whole nation to the Catholics of France and anywhere else."

"It is very clear that France is under attack," Macron said, referring to other arrests that took place during the day, as well as an attack that wounded a guard at the French consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
