Natalia Kuikka, one of the key players in the Finnish women's national football team, has signed a two-year contract with Portland Thorns FC, which plays in the US NWSL series.

The club announces the agreement on its website.

Kuikka is currently playing for the second season in Damallsvenskan, Sweden, in the ranks of Göteborg FC.

Kuikka, who plays on the sidelines or as a central defender, can end his season in Sweden with a championship, as his team leads Damallsvenskan when there are three rounds left in the series.

Kuikka from Kemi has played 55 matches in the Finnish national team and scored three goals.

He was only 17 years old in the 2013 Finnish team at the Swedish European Championships.

A year later, Kuikka was one of the main players of the Finnish national under-20 girls' national team at the World Championships in Canada.

Prior to moving to Sweden, Kuikka played for several years on the Florida State University team.

The previous Finnish player in the US professional series was Laura Österberg Kalmari, who represented Sky Blue FC in 2010–11.
