The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai reported that the number of public bus stops allocated to waiting for passengers increased by 12% over the past five years, in addition to the restructuring and development of five main bus stations in vital areas.

In response to a question to "Emirates Today" about the most important development initiatives it has implemented to improve transportation services and public transport, the authority said that it has implemented six important projects during the past five years, including increasing the number of public bus stops across the city, as part of developing the public bus line Of the 167 lines.

According to the latest statistics of the authority, the number of public buses operating to transport passengers on these lines is 1727, including five types: regular, double-decker, medium, double and luxury buses.

She explained that 899 air-conditioned umbrellas were installed in 630 sites for public bus passenger service, pointing to the opening of the new generation of bus umbrellas early last June, in four vital areas, and these umbrellas are distinguished by their innovative design.

She pointed to the restructuring and development of five major bus stations in a number of vital areas, including Al Ghubaiba, Al Ittihad, Al Etisalat, Al Satwa and Ibn Battuta, noting that work will continue to complete the development stages in these stations to serve the future needs of transportation services and urban and economic development.

She added that among the projects that implemented the launch of the smart hourly rental service for vehicles, and the provision of 400 vehicles in partnership with the private sector, can be rented from the closest point of the customer's presence through the smart application.

The authority referred to the development of the taxi sector, which was able to increase the number of these vehicles to 11 thousand and 6 taxis, pointing to the establishment of the Hala Taxi Company during the past year, in partnership with Careem, in order to provide distinguished services to taxi customers by combining the use of international technologies. The advanced and professional experience of the authority in the sector, so that customers can obtain a taxi service at the level of the Emirate of Dubai, within seconds, by using the smart application of the «Hala» company.

It is noteworthy that the authority is currently implementing 17 public transport stations to serve Expo visitors, including seven permanent stations distributed in the areas of Al Jafiliya and Al Ghubaiba, a communication station in Al Qusais, the Union station in Deira, Business Bay 2, Al Baraha, and Ibn Battuta, in addition to four temporary stations. In Dubai Silicon Oasis, International City, Business Bay 1, Palm Jumeirah, and six stops in Meydan, Dubai International Airport, Al Maktoum International Airport, Al Jaddaf, Dubai Maritime City and Dubai Mall, and bus stations will be integrated into the Dubai bus network after the event ends.
