The Liberal Democratic Party's defense-related parliamentary federation has compiled a proposal for an alternative to the new interception missile system "Aegis Ashore," which has been abandoned, and submitted it to the Minister of Defense Kishi in the Diet on the 30th.

The proposal calls for consideration of alternative measures centered on increasing the number of new Aegis ships, saying that the operational area can be flexibly changed and the protection capability is high.

In addition, the Ministry of Defense has indicated that it wants to use the radar that has already been contracted for "Aegis Ashore" as an alternative, and it needs to be further repaired in anticipation of changes in the security environment. As such, he points out that the study should not proceed on the premise of utilization.

Upon receiving the proposal, Defense Minister Kishi responded, "This is a very valuable proposal. We must respond firmly in the harsh security environment surrounding missiles."
