Myung-hee Myung-hee, who challenged the WTO secretary-general, was found to be behind the other candidates.

Although we may accept the results, another variable is that the United States strongly supports Candidate Myung-hee.

For more details, reporter Kim Hye-young will tell you.

<Reporter> The

World Trade Organization's WTO, which announced that Nigeria's Candidate Okonjoyweala was ahead of the final ballot, will nominate the next secretary-general to the special board of directors on the 9th of next month.

The Nigerian candidate is known to have won around 100 of the 163 votes.

[Keith Rockwell/WTO Spokesperson: (Nigeria Candidate) Okonzo-Iweala has gained broad support from countries in all stages of development, from'least-developed countries' to developed countries.]

As a result, consensus can be

pursued.

Strong opposition from the United States is the variable.

The United States said in an official statement by the Trade Representative, "I support General Manager Yoo Myung-hee."

The European Union and China, which are in rivalry with the US, support Nigerian candidates, and the decision that Director Yoo is more suitable for the direction of WTO reform that the US hopes for.

The WTO secretary-general is decided by consensus by the member states, so if the United States opposes the Nigerian candidate until the end, candidate Yoo may have a chance.

The Blue House is also in a position to look at the situation a little more, saying, "The special board of directors and other official procedures remain."

However, if we just believe in the United States and the position of the U.S. government changes after the presidential election, only us may be embarrassed.

[Lee Jae-woong/Deputy Speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: We plan to make a comprehensive judgment while respecting the positions and expectations of the member countries and the procedure for the election of the secretary-general of the WTO.]

There is a way for Candidate Yo to resign, taking into account many other member states, but the US strongly supports it. Even one-sided resignation is not easy.

Government officials say the situation is in need of discussions between the US and the ROK, and that conclusions must be made before the US presidential election at the latest.
