Hurricane Zeta, accompanied by strong winds, scratched the coast of the southeastern United States and headed north inland, killing at least three people and causing power outages in 2.5 million homes in six states.

According to the Associated Press, a 55-year-old man in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, was electrocuted and killed by an electric wire cut by a strong wind.

A man in Biloxi, Mississippi, was drowned in swollen waters while filming a hurricane on a waterfront marina, while another man in Cherokee County, Georgia, was killed by a tree fell from a strong wind.

In addition, power poles collapsed on the southeast coast due to strong winds of up to 175 km/h, and a large-scale power outage occurred as power lines were cut to the uprooted trees.

The Associated Press reports that power has been cut to approximately 2.5 million homes and businesses across six states, from Louisiana to North Carolina.

Disaster authorities in Louisiana said they are working to clear trees and repair broken power lines, and urge residents to stay safe indoors.

New Orleans, Louisiana, predicts that 80% of the city will be in darkness and will take ten days to fully restore power.
