The teachers contacted researchers in the teacher education at Luleå University of Technology to see if it was better to take advantage of what the students are reading today.
- If I am to be diplomatic, I can say that we need to be much better at it than we are today.
But then we also need resources to develop it, says the high school teacher in Swedish, Maria Berglund.
Together with LTU, the research project NYIS was created, which means a new text in Swedish.
Assistant professor Stefan Lundström is in charge of the project, which will run for one academic year.

Stefan Lundström says that if you look at traditional printed text, reading decreases, which can be a problem when you want citizens who are literate.
But if the concept of reading is broadened, young people will read like never before.
This applies, for example, if you include a film or a video game.
- Traditionally, for example, we have not cared at all about how to handle reading pictures in school.
It is interesting to see how you handle it from a school perspective, he says.
