"While the purpose of the swift search was to prevent the perpetrators of the horrific crime from fleeing, Qatar regrets whether the incidents caused discomfort or personal injury to any traveler," the Qatari government said in a statement.

It was in early October that Doha airport staff found an abandoned newborn baby in a toilet.

When looking for the mother, several female passengers must have been taken to an ambulance for gynecological examinations.

Women on ten different flights were affected

Reports of the incident came only recently, when passengers traveling by plane to Sydney in Australia told what they had been exposed to.

According to Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne, women on at least ten different flights have been affected and the incident has sparked a diplomatic dispute between Australia and Doha.

- I have never heard of anything like this, in any context.

"We have very clearly expressed our views on this to the Qatari authorities," Payne told ABC News earlier this week.
