The curfew is no longer enough against the coronavirus and some countries are preparing for the national lockdown in Europe, where the number of deaths has risen by 40% in a week.

The first to close will be the French: Macron's speech is expected today.

In Germany, Merkel is aiming for a one-month "light" lockdown from 4 November: bars, restaurants, sports centers, theaters and cinemas closed, gatherings and public events prohibited, schools and kindergartens open

Almost 15 thousand coronavirus infections are confirmed on a daily basis in Germany, a new record.

As announced by the Robert Koch Institute for Infectious Diseases, 14,964 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in 24 hours.

This is the largest number of infections on a daily basis since the beginning of the epidemic and brings the total to 449,275.

There were 85 deaths in one day, double yesterday and a sharp increase compared to recent days and the overall victims of Covid-19 in Germany exceeded the threshold of 11 thousand.

On the basis of data updated to yesterday (+11,409 infections), the incidence of cases is 87 per 100 thousand inhabitants and the virus reproduction index on the basis of 7 days is 1.21.

Chancellor Angela Merkel - writes the daily 'Bild' today - intends to propose to the governors of the Land a 'lockdown light' from 4 November for a month and throughout the German territory.

Bars, restaurants, sports centers, theaters and cinemas would be closed and gatherings and public events prohibited, while schools would remain open.

Macron ready to announce a new squeeze It is

also time for Emmanuel Macron to decide.

Faced with the "exponential" worsening of the Covid-19 pandemic, the French president is called to announce today a new squeeze against the coronavirus.

Even in the event of a national lockdown, schools should still remain open, BFM-TV reports, citing agreeing sources.

The same goes for public services.

Macron will chair a new defense council this morning, the second in two days, before the council of ministers.

Then, at 8 pm, the president's speech on TV.

"Everything can evolve until the last moment", warns a ministerial adviser.

Gb, government sources: "Second wave more lethal than the first"

The second wave of infections from Covid-19 will be more lethal than the first and the British government "is working in a confidential manner" on the hypothesis that "the death toll will remain high in the course of winter ".

This was revealed by the Daily Telegraph, informed by government sources, according to which the estimates of a worse picture in terms of deaths "have been presented to the prime minister who is now under considerable pressure for" more drastic action "and essentially to a new lockdown. ”Projections provided by the Scientific Emergency Advisory Group (Sage) point to a likely peak with fewer deaths, but a longer downturn from the peak, with a harder overall toll.

Record of infections in the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic also recorded a new record of Covid-19 cases on a daily basis.

As announced by the Ministry of Health, 15,663 infections have been ascertained in the last 24 hours and bring the total from the beginning of the epidemic to 284,033 in the country, which has about 10.7 million inhabitants and is the most affected in Europe in relation to the population.

Deaths in one day are 182 to a total of 2,547.

The country has introduced further and stricter restrictions against the pandemic since 22 October in the face of 'the dramatic incidence of new cases'.

In fact, it is a 'lockdown' with some exceptions compared to that of last spring.

Regional closures in Spain

Closures are also planned in Spain, but for the moment only at the regional level.

The state of emergency launched by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez a few days ago gave the regions the freedom to close their borders if necessary.

It seems that Andalusia, Madrid and Castilla y León are thinking of this, which have already asked their technical-scientific committees for an opinion in view of the All Saints' Bridge.

The president of Andalusia, Juan Manuel Moreno, admitted in an interview with Cadena Cope that he was "very pessimistic about the possibility of keeping the region open this weekend".

"The number of hospitalized and ICUs makes us think that it is not the right time to authorize flows of people entering and leaving the region," he said.

In Spain, doctors crossed their arms to protest against the failure to strengthen the health system on the day the Sanchez government presented the budget law for 2021 which provides for a 151% increase in spending for the sector.

Many of them went on strike in a symbolic way, continuing to guarantee basic services but, according to the main trade union (Cesm), 85% of the 267,000 Spanish doctors joined the agitation.

The intention is to go on strike on the last Tuesday of the month for an indefinite period of time while in the country, in addition to cases, hospitalizations for coronavirus continue to increase.
