The electric scooter launched in Dubai yesterday, and 14 legal conditions for driving it

The trial operation phase of the electric scooter service in Dubai started yesterday, which was launched by the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai in cooperation with 5 companies renting the service in 5 areas of the city, according to legal requirements that must be adhered to by both the scooter driver and the leased entity under penalty of liability.

According to the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, operating an electric scooter is currently subject to the legal requirements stipulated in both the Traffic and Traffic Law, as well as Administrative Decision No. 208 of 2020, of which Emirates Today reviewed an electronic copy, which specifies 14 legal obligations for the scooter driver. 9. Notify the competent authorities when any accident occurs, whether the accident was right or did not cause harm to others.


10. Do not use dual headphones while driving the electric scooter.


11. Adhere to the general safety conditions while driving the electric scooter.


12. Not to drive in a way that poses a danger to the public or users, or endangers the lives of others.


13. Not to drive outside the lane of the electric scooter and the shared lanes.


14. Wear appropriate clothes and shoes.

As for the binding requirements for the facility that practices the activity of operating electric scooters, they are summarized in the necessity to issue a permit to practice the activity from the licensing institution at the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai and to adhere to the safety conditions and technical specifications of the scooter stipulated in the permit, and not to rent the electric scooter in other than the places and areas specified by the authority, in addition to Providing educational material for scooter users, as well as notifying the authority in case they wish to stop practicing the activity.
