The Irish state has not appealed against the refusal to extradite Briton Ian Bailey to France, sentenced in his absence in Paris to 25 years in prison for the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier, his lawyer said on Tuesday, putting an end to the chances of seeing him retried in France.

“Barring an extraordinary event, it is the end of the extradition nightmare” for Ian Bailey, declared his lawyer Frank Buttimer.

The Irish State Council, which acts for France in the framework of this procedure, informed the High Court in Dublin that it did not intend to challenge the refusal of the Irish courts to extradite Ian Bailey to France, explained Frank Buttimer.
