Cambodian floods have killed 43 people

According to statistics from the Cambodian National Disaster Management Committee on the 27th, 43 people have been killed in the flood.

Currently, 121 cities, counties and districts in 20 provinces and municipalities across the country are affected, including Bodhisattva Province, Pai Ling Province, Banteay Meanchey Province, Phnom Penh City, Battambang Province, Svay Rieng Province, Siem Reap Province, Takeo Province, Seju Province, Mondulkiri Province, Sihanoukville Province, Kuo Kung Province, Preah Vihear Province, etc.

Among them, Banteay Meanchey Province is the worst-hit area, and the death toll from floods in the province has increased to 26.

  The National Disaster Management Committee of Cambodia stated that 594,000 people were affected by the floods, 47,000 people were evacuated, and 133,000 houses and 951 schools were flooded or damaged.

In addition, 272,000 hectares of rice fields were affected.

  Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen instructed the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, and the Ministry of Rural Development to assess the damage to infrastructure caused by the flood disaster and to fully promote post-disaster reconstruction.

  Hun Sen said that as soon as the flood recedes, we must act immediately, repair and rebuild.

In addition to repairing the infrastructure, the government is also preparing to distribute rice seeds and other crop seeds to disaster-stricken farmers’ families for re-cultivation after the disaster.

Farmers in the hardest-hit areas, including Banteay Meanchey and Battambang province, will have priority in obtaining rice seeds, and each family will receive 100 kg.
