Protesters in Baghdad denied that they had seized a vehicle for the Iraqi army, asserting that they had helped the army remove it, which was a "crane", and protected it from what they called "the party militia."

Meanwhile, protests continue today in Baghdad and a number of cities in central and southern Iraq to commemorate the first anniversary of the start of the "October Uprising."

According to Al-Jazeera correspondent, the security forces are still imposing strict measures in the vicinity of the demonstrations square and the Green Zone in Baghdad and the roads leading to them.

Today, dozens of young men tried to cross the Republic Bridge, which connects Tahrir Square to the Green Zone, where the headquarters of the government, parliament, the US embassy and foreign embassies are located.

Demonstrators threw rocks and tried to overcome barriers set up by the police, who responded with tear gas and stun grenades.

Yesterday's demonstrations, which coincided with the first anniversary of the start of the "October Uprising", saw about 50 security personnel in Baghdad injured after being thrown with grenades by unknown groups within the ranks of the demonstrators.

And in the city of Karbala (south), until the early morning hours, young demonstrators threw stones at police officers sheltering behind iron shields and carrying batons, who in turn threw them at the demonstrators again.

Security forces also fired in the air to disperse the protesters, who retreated to the rear.

In Nasiriyah (the center of Dhi Qar governorate in the south), hundreds of demonstrators stayed until late on Sunday night in Al-Haboubi Square (the city center), chanting the national anthem and slogans calling for the peaceful nature of the movement.

The city of Diwaniyah (south) witnessed similar demonstrations, during which demonstrators burned tires for some time in a number of streets (the city center), while the city of Hilla (the center of Babel Governorate) witnessed similar clashes.
