An obituary was published in the "Liberation Army Daily" published on October 26: Comrade Wang Zhiwen (old Red Army), a retired cadre of the Shaanxi Provincial Military Region and former Lanzhou Military Region Command Consultant, died in Xi'an on June 21 due to illness at the age of 99 .

  According to public information, Wang Zhiwen was originally named Wang Wanxiang from Chengcheng County, Shaanxi Province. He was born in January 1921, participated in revolutionary work in December 1936, joined the Communist Party of China in January 1938, and joined the army in May 1939.

  During the Xi'an Incident in December 1936, Wang Zhiwen participated in the Anti-Japanese National Salvation Group led by the CCP’s Chengcheng Underground Party Organization.

In 1939, appointed by the party organization, Wang Zhiwen went to Yan'an Central Party School to study.

He has participated in the battles of Heiliang Mountain, Nanihe, and Tuchengzi. He has served as officer, chief of unit, chief of section, former chief of staff of Qinghai Guoluo Command of Lanzhou Military Region, former director of Operations Department of Lanzhou Military Command, former deputy of Lanzhou Military Command Chief of Staff, former consultant of Lanzhou Military Region Command, etc.

  Wang Zhiwen was awarded the Class III Independence Medal and Class III Liberation Medal in 1957, and was awarded the Class II Red Star Meritorious Medal in 1988. He retired in January 1987.

  In an interview with China Military Network in 2019, Wang Zhiwen recalled his early revolutionary career: After joining the party, Wang Zhiwen established an underground contact point in the school under the cover of a teacher in Xiluocheng Primary School, responsible for liaison and transmission of information.

"The sacrificial group was later betrayed by traitors, and many comrades in arms sacrificed. I escaped a catastrophe because I went out to deliver a letter, otherwise I was arrested." In his life, he always felt that his life was picked up.
