Cleveland Browns star Odell Beckham Jr, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Sunday, will miss the remainder of the Professional League of American Football (NFL) season, his club announced Monday.

An MRI scan taken Monday confirmed the diagnosis feared by the Browns.

"It's a big loss. As everyone knows, he plays a big role" in the team, said Browns coach Kevin Stefanski.

Beckham was injured in the first quarter of Cleveland's 37-34 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, after twisting his left knee as he attempted an interception.

The career of Beckham, 27, has been peppered with injuries since joining Cleveland from the New York Giants last year.

Last season, despite hip and groin injuries, he still managed to rack up more than 1,000 yards at reception.

This season, he caught 23 passes for 319 yards traveled and three touchdowns.

Beckham's injury robs the Browns of their best receiver as they aim for a more difficult playoff spot for more than a decade.

Their current record is 5 wins and 2 losses.
