Coronavirus: at the end of September, 70% of employees were working on site

At the end of September, 70% of employees worked on site, 12% were teleworking and 3% in full partial unemployment, according to a survey published Monday by Dares, the statistics service of the Ministry of Labor.

The proportion of employees returning to the site increased compared to the end of August 

The "Acemo" survey (activity and employment conditions of the workforce during the Covid-19 health crisis) which covers companies with 10 or more employees in the private sector shows that the share of returning employees site increased compared to the end of August (55%) due in particular to the return of vacation of certain employees.

But the share of on-site employees at the end of September was also higher than in June (63%) due to a drop in the share of employees working from home (12% in September, on average on a given day during the week of reference, against 17% in June) and employees in full partial unemployment (3% in September against 7% in June).

The distribution of teleworking varies according to the size of the companies, with in particular 18% of employees on average over a week in companies with 500 or more employees, and according to the sectors with for example 46% of employees teleworking in the information and Communication.

Two to three days of telework per week recommended by the government

Since mid-October and in view of the deterioration of the health situation, companies have been invited to define a minimum number of days of teleworking per week, via the health protocol, which does not go so far as to give a weekly objective.

Head of State Emmanuel Macron in particular recommended "two to three days of teleworking per week" in companies where this is possible, to "reduce collective pressure a little".

The Dares survey also shows that partial unemployment, which affected nearly 9 million employees in April, fell to 1.1 million employees in September, after 1.3 million in August.

It also indicates that 30% of employees still work in a company whose activity has decreased (after 32% in August and 71% in May) with an uncertainty that remains high, companies that do not know when the return to normal representing 31% of employees.
