  • Supreme Court, confrontation between Barrett and Harris begins

October 25, 2020 Republicans in the Senate overwhelmingly supported the advancement of Judge Amy Coney Barrett's nomination towards final confirmation, despite Democrats' objections.

Fifty-one votes in favor, 48 against.

The confirmation vote is expected tomorrow and apparently the Republicans will be sufficiently united in supporting the choice of President Donald Trump, about a week before the election.

The Democrats plan to stall the Senate, so they believe it should be the presidential winner who chooses the next candidate or candidate for the Supreme Court after Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies.

Barrett represents the third time Trump has chosen a judge nomination for the court, which would thus have a strong Conservative majority for many years to come.

Barrett's Catholic and conservative positions allow for sentences contrary to the right to abortion, same-sex marriage and on Obamacare.
