New reports, new measures and highlights: an update on the latest developments in the Covid-19 pandemic around the world.

- New restrictions in Italy -

After the record figures of new contaminations, Italy has decided to tighten restrictions against the coronavirus, despite protests in recent days in Rome and Naples against the curfew imposed in three regions.

Cinemas, theaters, gyms and swimming pools will have to close from Monday until November 24.

Bars and restaurants will have to stop serving after 6:00 p.m.

Some 20,000 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in 24 hours in Italy, according to the count announced by the authorities on Saturday.

- Towards a curfew in Spain -

The Spanish government is preparing to declare a new state of health emergency on Sunday, in order to allow in particular the establishment of a curfew in certain regions of the country, which a few days ago exceeded the million confirmed cases of Covid -19.

This will be the second state of health emergency of the year at the national level in Spain, after the one proclaimed in March to contain the first wave of the coronavirus and which lasted until June.

- More than 42.69 million cases

The pandemic has killed at least 1.15 million people worldwide since the end of December, according to a report established by AFP from official sources on Sunday at 11:00 GMT.

More than 42.69 million cases have been officially diagnosed.

Colombia surpassed the one million case mark on Saturday.

The United States, which on Saturday recorded a record number of cases for the second day in a row, is the most bereaved country with 224,906 dead.

Next come Brazil with 156,903 dead, India (118,534), Mexico (88,743) and the United Kingdom (44,745).

- Pence chief of staff tested positive -

US Vice President Mike Pence's chief of staff tested positive on Saturday, the latest in Donald Trump's administration to have contracted the coronavirus.

He was placed in quarantine.

Vice President Pence and his wife have tested negative for their part.

- Trump "screwed up" -

Former US President Barack Obama on Saturday accused his successor Donald Trump of having "completely screwed up" in his management of Covid-19, during a rally in support of Democratic candidate Joe Biden in Miami, Florida.

Donald Trump for his part again predicted Saturday, during a meeting in North Carolina, that we would no longer hear about the pandemic the day after the presidential election on November 3.
