A hundred firefighters were deployed on Saturday in Le Havre to extinguish a fire that broke out in a warehouse, said the prefecture of Seine-Maritime.

Alerted, the firefighters arrived very quickly on the scene around 1:50 p.m. and managed to control the fire in the early evening.

Their action "made it possible to prevent the spread to another warehouse," said the prefecture.

The fire which broke out in a warehouse located rue du 8 mai 1945 in Le Havre did not threaten any homes, but as a precaution, 150 people were evacuated in the area close to the fire and a security perimeter was deployed there. .

According to the prefecture, these are textiles that burned, "on an area of ​​8,000 m2 for a volume of 120,000 m3".

Due to the nature of the materials, the firefighters' intervention must still last "several hours or even several days".

However, the town hall of Le Havre leaves the gymnasium available to those who wish to spend the night there, ”the prefecture indicated in the evening.

According to the services of the State in Seine-Maritime, if "the measurements of the air carried out confirm the absence of danger", the fumes "may however represent an olfactory annoyance".
