Image of the week

: the appearance of former President Barack Obama.

Without a jacket or tie, the former White House tenant has finally given Joe Biden's campaign the eloquence it lacked.

Since the inauguration of Donald Trump in January 2017, the 44th President of the United States has been particularly discreet.

Just like during the Democratic primaries, during which Barack Obama concretely shone by his absence, offering his support to his former vice-president only once he was concretely victorious.

But this time, in front of the Democratic public of Pennsylvania, Barack Obama did not restrain his blows, nor his words, and painted a murderous portrait of the president in office.

The controversy of the week

: it is actually a debate, the last between the two candidates before the ballot.

This final meeting held Thursday in Nashville.

After the fiasco of September 29, the event was feared as much by the public as by the two competitors.

To avoid the cacophony, the commission in charge of the organization of the event had to take drastic measures to discipline the candidates: microphone cut in alternation, speaking time distributed by a master's hand by the journalist of the American channel NBC ... Conclusion: it was the American public who emerged victorious and who were finally able to hear the ideas of the two contenders for the White House.

Pandemic, economy, health coverage, safety - all topics have been reviewed.

Analysis of the week

: before reappearing on the set of the NBC chain in Nashville, Joe Biden had concretely disappeared from the media scene for a few days.

So close to the deadline, this strategic choice is quite simply unheard of in an American campaign and, above all, contrasts with the hyper activity of Donald Trump.

In reality, each of the two candidates leads the campaign they need, taking into account their strengths and weaknesses.

Joe Biden enjoys a comfortable lead in the polls - between 8 and 10 points, according to the institutes.

But a threat continues to weigh: the hypothesis that he commits a major mistake in language, the declaration too much that will make him lose the confidence of his electorate.

We saw it during the debate: speaking in public is a test for the Democratic candidate but so far he has been faultless.

For Donald Trump, it is quite simply the opposite.

The president in office adores meetings, he is never as happy as among his militants and he knows that in key states, he must go and seek each vote with forceps ... The risk for him, the excess of excess, the one that will prevent him from convincing the undecided at the last moment.

And now

: After Thursday's debate, American voters might not see the two men together again until nomination day, next January, and only if Joe Biden wins.

The next deadline is therefore to hold the ballot on November 3.

Until then, the incumbent president will have to continue his campaign meetings until the last moment, and especially in Florida, the state he has no right to lose.

For Joe Biden, the challenge will be to hold and maintain his lead in the polls for a few more days.
