The 19th stage of the Giro d'Italia, scheduled for 258 kilometers between Morbegno and Asti, was shortened by a hundred kilometers on Friday morning, after a protest movement from the riders in front of the length of the course made worse by the bad weather conditions.

The riders' representatives obtained from the organizers this modification of the route which shortens the longest stage of the Giro, lengthened the day before by 5 kilometers because of the collapse of a bridge.

The peloton has to face heavy rain over Lombardy in this plain stage which comes after three long stages of around six hours of racing for the first.

The transfer for the new start given to the north of Milan is planned by bus for the different teams, each with a pullman.

A final mountain stage is scheduled for Saturday before the final time trial in Milan on Sunday.
