At least 21 people were killed Tuesday in the collapse of a church in the town of Akyem Batabi, in eastern Ghana.

"Twelve women and nine men are among the victims," ​​said the national relief organization. 

Dozens more could still be trapped under the rubble.

About sixty people were present

Eight people were also found alive.

They were transported to hospitals, said the governor of the Eastern region, Eric Darfur.

In total, more than 60 people were gathered for a mass when the three-story evangelical church collapsed, said a survivor interviewed by local media.

The causes of the accident have not yet been established.

Church founder Isaac Ofori, better known as Akoa Isaac, said he was assisting the police in their investigation.
