The Director of Licensing Activities Supervision Department at the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Mohammed Walid Nabhan, revealed that about 36% of the vehicles that applied for the technical examination required to be conducted to renew the license during the past nine months had failed due to the tires' failure to comply with the approved safety conditions and standards.

Nabhan told Emirates Today that tire safety and their compliance with the approved technical standards is a key factor in vehicle safety and road users' safety, pointing to the organization of a field campaign that took a month to inspect the safety of vehicle tires in the emirate, during which the technical inspection centers were checked and the level of The examiners, their awareness and experience in detecting faults or invisible damage to the vehicle's tires

He added that about 64 thousand and 900 vehicles did not pass the technical inspection during the past year, due to the lack of safety of the tires, which constitute about 33% of the total vehicles submitted for examination for the purpose of licensing, adding that 32 thousand and 178 vehicles also failed in the technical examination from the beginning of January until the end of Last September, it accounted for 36% of the vehicles that were tested.

On the most important types of damage and tire conditions that prevent the vehicle from passing the examination, Nabhan said that they include expired tires, that is, more than five years old from the date of manufacture, and tires that are worn out, which have parts, and which are not suitable for road traffic.

He added that monitoring the safety of vehicle tires, whether through field inspection or through technical inspection of vehicles, is not limited to recording violations against violating heavy vehicles, or giving a report of success or failure of the vehicle in the inspection center, but rather includes warnings and an explanation by the inspectors to vehicle drivers about How to monitor and maintain tire condition.

Nabhan added that, during the monitoring campaigns and during the technical examination, the public is educated about the problems in the tire, warning about the permissible period of time to continue using tires, and explaining the risk and damage in the event of negligence and non-compliance with the instructions.

He pointed out that the preventive measures to ensure the safety of the tires include the appropriateness of measuring the used tire, and making sure that it can withstand the temperature, stressing the importance of paying attention to the condition of the new tires before purchasing them, and verifying that they are not affected by humidity and temperatures that can cause damage and unfit.

Monitor tires for training vehicles

The Director of the Licensing Activities Supervision Department at the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Mohammed Nabhan, confirmed that the tires of vehicles used in driving institutes are checked for the purpose of training, as these vehicles are suddenly and randomly stopped during their exit or entry to the institute, to ensure the safety and validity of the tires.

He added that the driving education curriculum, adopted by the authority in the institutes, requires clarification and explanation of the safety elements of the vehicle and its tires, in order to ensure that the trainee knows in advance about these requirements, so that he adheres to them when obtaining the license and driving the vehicle.

The State's Traffic and Traffic Law stipulates that the vehicle's tires are not valid while it is traveling on the road is a violation, and the vehicle is fined 500 dirhams and four traffic points, and the vehicle is seized for a week.
