It is Stockholm Skavsta Airport AB that will embark on the project together with an even secret player.

By the summer, there will be solar cells on site.

- There are two reasons why we choose to do this.

We have the ground surface, we want to find ways to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and in the long run we will do it with this facility.

Then we also see that the area will be developed in the future and green electricity provides an attraction, says Joakim Lindholm, operations manager for the airport.

"Does not make big money"

According to Lindholm, Skavsta will be the first among airports in Sweden to build a solar energy plant of a larger type.

- We will not make big money on this, but in the long run we will ensure access to green electricity, he says.

Municipality interested

Skavsta wants to sell the surplus electricity and an agreement with the municipality of Nyköping is underway.

The municipality's energy company Nyköpings Vattenkraft AB will first investigate the possibilities for the electricity purchase.

- On Monday, we will make a decision on a declaration of intent between the municipality and Skavsta, says municipal councilor Martina Hallström (C).
