Infection control doctor Britt Åkerlind describes a concern about the recent increase.

One month ago, there were an average of ten new infected people a day.

A week ago that number was 50 and now in just one day it is around 90 people.

- We wonder where this is going, says Britt Åkerlind to SVT Nyheter Öst.

Hear her talk about the development in the clip above.

It is still mainly people in the age group 20-29 years who dominate, when it comes to new confirmed cases, but also older age groups are now infected, says the infection control doctor.

- We now see that the infection also spreads upwards with age.

Due to the recent rapid increase in infection, she says that it may be relevant with local restrictions in consultation with the Public Health Agency.

- It can definitely be like that in the future, says Britt Åkerlind.

The Östergötland Region is monitoring the situation to see what restrictions could reduce the spread of infection in that case.

What would it be about for recommendations here in Östergötland?

- It could be about travel patterns, large accumulations of people.

Success factors are keeping physical distance and being at home when you are sick.

When this fails, we get a spread of infection, says Britt Åkerlind.

Spread of infection in several departments in Östergötland

The spread of infection has been found in workplaces, among students, but also in wards at the county's hospitals.

- Yes, there is also.

Healthcare is a reflection of society because the hospital's staff belong to the community base and here we also currently have units that have a spread of infection among staff, she says.

The infection control doctor does not want to go into which devices they are.

- I do not really want to mention them, but one is the neurosurgical clinic at US in Linköping.

But are there more wards that are contagious?

- Yes, there are more, says Britt Åkerlind.
