This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Chinese People’s Volunteers’ going abroad to fight against the US and aid Korea. After more than half a year of reconstruction and construction, today (October 22), the Volunteer Army Park was officially opened to the public in Dandong, Liaoning Province.
The Volunteer Army Park is located on the bank of the Yalu River in Dandong City, with a total area of 13 hectares.
Based on the integration of the natural ecological elements and values of the Yalu River, the park fully reflects the culture and history of Dandong, a heroic city in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea.
Dandong citizen: As a Dandong citizen, I am very happy. It used to be an ordinary citizen's park. It has been transformed into a volunteer army park. It can remind us not to forget and always remind us to cherish the current theme of peaceful development.
In the Volunteer Army Park, the 7 groups of sculptures collectively created by Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, "Volunteer Army", "Across the Yalu River", "Support", "First Battle Victory", "Peace", "Life Aid" and "Azalea Extra Red" are the biggest highlights.
The design and modeling of the sculpture closely focus on promoting the spirit of patriotism and revolutionary heroism, vividly reflecting the rich connotation and value of the times of the great spirit of resisting US aggression and aiding Korea.
Dandong citizen: I still feel very shocked. I saw a sculpture over there. It was a kettle full of bullet holes. From that bullet hole, you can see the tragic war of the year, and you can feel the current peaceful life. It's not easy.
Yang Shuo, Associate Professor of the Sculpture Department of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts: The "Crossing the Yalu River" we see behind me now is inspired by a very classic photo in the Memorial Hall to Resist US Aid Korea.
Through the performance (form) of the group sculptures, you can see that before crossing the Yalu River, the lovely soldiers have both a yearning for peace and a yearning for their hometown.
The theme sculpture group scattered in the garden focuses on the heroic spirit of the volunteer army and the spiritual advantage of defying and defeating the strong enemy. It shows the patriotic feelings of the people of all ethnic groups in the country. A firm determination to fear violence and maintain peace.
The Volunteer Army Park with a clear theme will become a patriotic education base for Dandong and even Liaoning to inherit and carry forward the great spirit of resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea in the new era.
