Lebanese President assigns Saad Hariri to form the new government

On Thursday, Lebanese President Michel Aoun assigned the leader of the Future Movement, former prime minister, Saad Hariri, to form a new government after he obtained the majority of the votes of parliament in his parliamentary consultations, according to what the presidency announced.

And the Lebanese presidency announced in a statement after the end of Aoun's meetings with the parliamentary blocs, “After the President of the Republic conducted the binding parliamentary consultations, and after he consulted with the Speaker of Parliament and informed him of its results, the President summoned at 1:30 pm Mr. Saad Eddin Hariri to assign him to form the government.”

After his meeting with the President in a brief speech to journalists, Hariri announced Thursday that he will form a government composed of "non-partisan specialists whose mission is to implement the economic, financial and administrative reforms contained in the French initiative paper, which the main blocs in Parliament committed to support the government in its implementation.

He said, "I will focus on forming a government quickly, because time is running out and the opportunity for our country is the only and last."

Hariri won 65 votes, according to the presidency.

While 53 representatives declined to name.

The House of Representatives consists of 128 members, but there are eight resigning MPs who did not participate in the consultations.

On the eve of his naming, Aoun held Hariri, without naming him, the responsibility of tackling corruption and launching a reform workshop.

He placed the deputies before their responsibilities, calling them to think about "the effects of the mandate on authorship, reform projects and international rescue initiatives."

Hariri's nomination comes at a time when Lebanon is witnessing an accelerating economic collapse and the international community, led by France, is waiting for officials to carry out necessary reforms that they have failed to achieve so far, which are a condition for the country to obtain necessary financial support.

Hariri, whose government resigned a year ago due to popular protests, is awaiting a difficult task due to political divisions and the resentment of the street against the political class.
