The Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer denounced this Thursday morning "Islamo-leftism" which "is wreaking havoc at the university", targeting in particular the student union UNEF and France Insoumise.

"Our society has been far too permeable to currents of thought," said the minister in an interview with Europe 1. "What is called Islamo-leftism is wreaking havoc," continues the Minister of National Education. .

"It wreaks havoc at the university, it wreaks havoc when the UNEF gives in to this type of thing, it wreaks havoc when in the ranks of France Insoumise, you have people who are of that current and appear as such.

These people favor an ideology which then, from time to time, leads to the worst, ”said Jean-Michel Blanquer.

Jean-Michel Blanquer, on the comments made by @GDarmanin: "I am thinking of the intellectual complicity of terrorism. Our society has been too permeable (...) to Islamo-leftism and which is wreaking havoc at the university, in the ranks of France Insoumise .. "# Europe1 pic.twitter.com/GnayIhEVrb

Political escalation

Calling to "fight fanaticism", he pointed out all forms of "intellectual complicity" in crimes like that of Professor Samuel Paty, murdered for showing caricatures of Mohammed.

These comments follow a political escalation since the assassination of the professor.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin sparked a controversy on Tuesday, saying he was "shocked" by the sight of "community" shelves in supermarkets.

Thursday starts the Grenelle of education, which the minister promised that it would lead in three months to an increase in teachers' salaries or to additional protection measures.

This Grenelle was already on the ministry's agenda but it has been revised since the assassination of Samuel Paty to put more emphasis on "the professor at the center of society".
