Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri was chosen on Thursday to form a government, the presidency reported after binding parliamentary consultations led by head of state Michel Aoun.

Saad Hariri was chosen by a majority of 65 MPs, according to a statement read at a press conference by a senior presidential official.

He had resigned almost a year ago to the day under the pressure of an unprecedented popular uprising and will have to tackle the formation of a new government team in a Lebanon in the midst of economic collapse.
