A 16-year-old high school student has just been indicted in Haute-Garonne for insulting a teacher following a heated debate on the veil during civic education.

Seven high school students were taken into custody earlier this week. 

In Muret, near Toulouse, a 16-year-old high school student has just been indicted for insulting a teacher.

She had taken to task this teacher of history and geography in the interclass, following a debate on the veil.

The facts date back to October 9, before the Conflans-Sainte-Honorine attack which claimed the life of Professor Samuel Paty.

First, four high school students who, during a debate devoted to gender equality, orient the discussion towards the veil during a civic education course at CAP.

The students question their teacher and invoke Sharia law.

The debate spreads throughout the Aragon high school.

"It is especially at the interclass that a student from another class came to insult and insult the teacher", explains Philippe d'Estable, deputy academic inspector of Haute Garonne.

"It is completely unacceptable". 

"Faith does not rule the law"

For Carole Delga, the regional president in charge of high schools, we must be firm with these behaviors.

"All my support for the teacher, there are no threats," she says.

"Faith does not rule the law, All religions are to be respected but none has to enter the public space."

Earlier this week, seven high school students were taken into police custody following a complaint from the teacher.

Hearings which led to this indictment of this young girl for contempt.

She was also expelled from the school, along with two students, and a disciplinary council must be held at the start of the school year.
