México DF, 1963. Presenting Olvido Gara is wasting lines. You already know who he is.

He premiered yesterday in Madrid, at the Calderón theater,

La Último Tourné

, the play with which he has been touring Spain for three years and that not even the coronavirus has stopped.

Can La Ultima Tourné be a premonitory title in these times? We started before all this exploded, so ... Although maybe if we released now, it would give me a little something.

I hope it is not my last tour, but if it is, neither

nothing happens.

In life everything has to be done as if it were the last time.

You should never expect anything beyond the present because it is not in your power.

If something else comes along, great.

If not, then it hasn't been bad so far.

After 45 years of success, do you still think this can end tomorrow?

Totally.

But it is so.

I don't know how many years Nacho (Canut) and I have been thinking: "When we want to record a Fangoria album again, there will be no record industry or record stores."

And we are still making records.

You never know, but I've always had the idea that nothing is forever and in this job even less.

I don't take anything for granted.

The show has been a success throughout Spain, despite being far from what they tell us "takes".

Are you trying to convince people that you want what you don't really want?

That is very interesting, but I don't know if it can be applied today.

It was like this when we had a television network and a half and three newspapers.

I've always thought about it: poor my mother who had to see yes or yes

The Cristal ball

,

Applause

and what was.

Although that gave him a certain culture.

I mean, my mother will always know who Loquillo is.

And other younger people saw

Falcon Crest

because he had nothing else to see at that time and what he takes.

Or when the private ones started and

Twin peaks

it was a hit with the audience.

Nowadays nobody would think of programming in

prime time

that series.

I believe that today there are products for everyone, there is no excuse to say "is that what I like is not done".

That is you don't bother to search.

The work speaks of those 90s in which, in Spain, we feel like kings.

Were we worse than we thought or is it that we have broken everything?

That 90s moment is the beginning of everything.

Of everything that happens today at the political, social, economic level ... You have to go there to see how the great debacle that we are experiencing begins.

But I had already lived through the 80s, when we also got fed up saying that there was no city like Madrid or a country like Spain.

They came from

New York Times

or from

Vogue Italia

to do reports about us.

So in the 90s I had already experienced that fatuous thing of looking at your belly button and, on top of that, they caught me in a total economic crisis.

It was when Fangoria didn't even have a record company, we published our own albums ... Then we lived on the fringes.

We believed that the crisis was ours and it turns out that it was the country's crisis.

But it is true that at the official level we were told that in Spain there was money for everything, for culture, for structures, for fairs ... And it was true.

What happens is that we have had very bad managers.

Does Spain hurt you or are you cured of fear?

It does not hurt me.

I can also say it very loud and clear because I was not born here.

It is not chauvinism.

I love Spain, I love Spanish people and it seems to me that what was done here in the last quarter of the 20th century was exemplary.

Now unfairly questioned, but exemplary.

Like everything else, there have been mistakes, but I am very favorable to this country in which we live and to the people who live in this country.

So Spain can't hurt me because it seems like a fantastic country to me.

Individuals may hurt me, but I refuse to be hurt by a country that is the one I have voluntarily chosen to live in, to adopt its nationality and to enjoy.

Almost all of you who lived the Transition defend it tooth and nail now that it is being discussed.

Yes, because perspective has been lost with the Transition.

In addition, they are very free attacks and very with the wind in favor.

Because if you speak mostly for people who did not experience it, you can tell them what you want because they were not there to see it and defend it.

They were not there to know how the media worked, how the street worked.

As an amateur student of History, I know the danger that sources will tell you that everything they have told you before is wrong so they can tell you worse.

It is very difficult to work with your partner and Mario (Vaquerizo) and you don't stop.

Here you agree again.

Tell me that, at least, you fight non-stop.

No way.

Think that we started from the opposite base: we started working together before being a couple and we already knew that we worked together well.

But there are things in which we get along more and things in which we get along less.

For example: Mario as a manager is perfect, we get along great, we think the same, we are ultrastructured, organizers ... In the theater, also great because there I take Mario to my land and I am happy.

However in the

reality

I have a terrible time because Mario needs to know nothing and improvise and I am a super organizer.

We fought a lot there.

But overall we work very well together.

You also have to think that our jobs are really hobbies and that makes things much easier.

In the work there are several Almodovarian reunions from the first period: Bibiana Fernández, Manuel Bandera, you ... Do you keep the links?

I have known Bibiana forever, the first photo together is in Ibiza in 1981. But we had never had a true friendship until David Delfín joined us many years later.

Through our friendship with David we became more friends with Bibiana and, by extension, with Manuel, who is part of Bibiana's life.

Although we have known each other forever, we have never had that degree of intimacy.

And then, of course, the friends of friends who are friends and you see each other on birthdays, celebrations and premieres.

Rossi de Palma makes a parade and there we all get together.

How much has La Movida been mythologized?

Well, it has been mythologized as much as it has tried to demystify.

It is what it is: the moment of a country and of some people, of certain ages and origins, who made culture and entertainment.

It's nothing more than that and see how much that is.

It was not exceptional, luckily.

It is the same as what happened in New York or London in the 60s. What happens is that as Spain came out of what it came out, it is given another dimension.

And you know what?

It's true that he does, what the hell.

The time has come to say, that of course it was so bad.

As we have always said, it cannot be mythologized, nor can one now try to sell that it was nothing and there are those who try.

Could you do all the things you did then today?

Of course.

I don't think we are in a conservative moment;

on the contrary, it is a very exhibitionistic moment.

All the gaffes are done on the networks, everyone sees them.

Today anyone can say what they like, what they feel, take a photo on any social network.

That is what has changed everything.

But there are those who complain that everything offends.

Yes, of course everything offends.

And it is normal.

All their lives any expression has offended certain people, what happens is that before they did not have the loudspeaker to say it to your face ... Well to your face either, because it is anonymous.

But I don't know who the hell you are and I don't care, so we'll keep doing what we consider.

How have you been successively muse of the Movida, LGTBI muse and muse of the right?

I have to take it with humor, because if I stopped to think about it, I would have a stroke.

I lived the moment that I had to live, I work with the people I like to work with, period.

It is as if now they say that I am the muse of Spanish cinema for presenting

Neighborhood Cinema

... Well no, hopefully, but no.

I do the things that interest me and I talk about what interests me, I don't want to represent anyone.

I represent myself and that's enough for me.

Can you explain to yourself about the right, even though you have said that you have never voted for it?

Yeah, look I've said it times, but boy what do we do?

Further.

There comes a time when it seems like an explicatio non petita, accusatio manifests.

I don't care, as long as they don't say I've murdered someone ... That everything will come.

It is the great dilemma: do I answer the injury or do I let it pass?

Well, as a Fangoria song says: "Don't clarify, it gets dark."

Of what you are, an image is the best of another time:

The Cristal ball

.

Are you aware of what you did for the formation of an entire generation?

You are there to tell me and I believe you.

I think: "Well, it will be like when I discovered Mr. Spock, who changed my life."

I accept it because we all have our turning points and our cultural and sentimental upbringings, but it was not a question of conscience.

I would like the articles that appeared in music magazines when it was released to be recovered now

The Cristal ball

They were devastating.

Wreckers.

That is why I have been cured of fright since I was little.

Everything is very different when you live in the moment than when you see what happens 20 or 30 years later.

Did they massacre you?

Yes, you see.

They said: "For what is Alaska, to present a program for children" or "they no longer have anything to do in music."

35 years ago and they already said it was finished.

Well come on, that's it.

It was that idea back then that television was negative.

Young people today cannot understand this, but in those years making television was degrading for intellectuals and critics.

And I'm talking about criticism from one side and the other.

This is the story of my life.

Have you bothered so much?

It seems.

There are things you understand.

For example, if I go out naked in the

Interview

With a chainsaw, I more or less know who I'm going to bother.

But sometimes it still deeply amazes me that the most annoying are those on the other side.

Who was going to tell you, as a champion of modernity, that you were going to end up presenting Cine de barrio.

It is that for me that is the most modern.

In the Ball we were already recovering

LosMonster, Haunted

... Old series.

It must be understood that the modern is not what has been built today but what maintains a line of modernity throughout history.

Spanish cinema from the 50s, 60s and 70s is the basis of my culture.

If Nacho and I had to say what has influenced us the most when composing songs and recording videos of Fangoria, it would be that cinema.

Now, if you believe that modernity is art and essay, you may still be surprised to see me there.

But no, I am of little art and essay.

To me the camera on a tripod.
