More than 400 Swedes developed narcolepsy after being vaccinated against swine flu during the mass vaccination in 2009.

This is something that has affected many Swedes' stance when it comes to whether they choose to be vaccinated or not, says Sweden's vaccine coordinator Richard Bergström in SVT's Aktuellt.

"Exceptionally large studies"

The studies that are done for vaccines against the coronavirus are very extensive, compared with previous studies, says Richard Bergström.

- In these last tests that are done on humans, it is about 30,000 to 100,000 people who receive either a vaccine or a placebo, then the effect and safety in these two groups are compared.

There are exceptionally large studies in the programs that are now underway and we will be able to have much more information than we had before about vaccines, he says.

"Can not guarantee"

However, one can not be completely sure that unknown side effects do not appear, according to Richard Bergström.

- If you test this on 100,000 people, you will catch very rare side effects.

If there is something we do not catch, it is extremely unusual.

That risk can never be guaranteed against.
