"Parents should stay out of school and leave the teachers alone," National Assembly President Richard Ferrand said on BFMTV and RMC.

While the teachers underline the difficulty of calmly carrying out their profession after the fright caused by the beheading of a professor in Conflans, Richard Ferrand considered that in general, “for several decades there have been things that no doubt collectively we we were wrong to let change ”.

Deploring "sometimes a mixture of genders", he recalled that "parents provide education to their children but it is the teachers who are responsible for giving the instruction: they are not responsible for taking the place of failing parents, not more than the parents have to come and say how to teach ”.

He thus called for "to close all the traps to contest the action of the professors", and to "restore the full authority to the teachers", without however saying by what precise means.

Not unfavorable to wearing the veil for accompanying mothers

Asked also about the wearing of the veil by mothers accompanying children on school trips, a recurring subject of controversy, he defended their right to wear it and to supervise these outings.

"On the question of knowing if we can be veiled when we accompany children and if I am against it, obviously not, because we must not mix everything", he said, recalling that if the law prohibits hiding the face, "for the rest the freedom to dress is total".

"It is important that there are mothers who accompany the children, otherwise if you rebel people because they wear such and such a dress, you confine them in their accommodation for eternity and you prevent social life".

"We are not going to proscribe everything, freedom of expression is not only in one sense", he insisted, stressing that "we have the right to let people arrive in this outfit" and also in parallel "the right to say I am shocked".
